Five years after September, Don Johnston’s first release with Freshly Squeezed, the Exeter-based DJ returns with July, an EP of six back-to-back dance floor orientated tracks. His previous releases charted at #1 on Beatport’s Glitch Hop chart, resulting in two european tours and hundreds of festival appearances over the years, including Glastonbury Festival, Boomtown, Secret Garden Party and many more. 2018’s festival appearances include Grinagog, Boomtown and a closing set at Isle of Wight’s Cirque De La Quirk.
While as a DJ Don Johnston likes to spin a mix of brass, bass, vintage remix and glitch hop from a variety of artists worldwide, his own productions are up to par. With environmental issues at heart, Donjohnston is known for working almost exclusively out of a solar-powered van based studio! Despite the enviably earth-loving approach, the six tracks on July carry a considerable punch with smooth female vocals and jazzy instrumentations carried by heavy synths and massive electronic drums.
Don Johnston is the undeniable mastermind behind July, but the record was not created in a vacuum. Apart from Mazrah’s feature on the atmospheric Rising, there are also collaborations with Electric Spank, Captain Flatcap, Pattern Pusher, Chris Watts and Dill Master Fresh, making this a must-have EP for every electronic dance music fan out there!
Almost impossible to pick a favourite from this bunch, they're all so cool. For now, I'm singling out the Kinks one because it's such an original song choice but ask me tomorrow and it'll be a different one! themichaelmoran

Relentlessly cheerful bouncy funk here. Extra points to the lead track that is the least convincing call for last orders ever, hardly likely to jog merry makers out of the party mood. Leo Stableford
